”There is no solution because there is no problem.” – Marcel Duchamp
This class, led by Mike Egan, will review recent developments in contemporary art. The class will look at images of the most radical emerging ideas, and discuss the way this art is produced, exhibited, understood, and processed. Topics include current critical formations such as Transitive Objects, Zombie Formalism, Poser Tech, Humblebrag Aesthetics, and the Paranoid Style. A main component of the class is a frank question and answer session about commercial gallery structures, group dynamics of the international art industry, and the relationship of aesthetic theory to climate controlled storage.
Why is art made, and what happens to art as time passes?
What is garbage, and what is not?
How is freedom possible?
What is success?
